People often search for a particular role model to walk in their footprints while trying to understand life. This is not only because of their motivation but also a hint of kinship to the journey. Though it is pretty challenging to find a perfect idol, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu is an inspiration.  He is one of the most remembered politicians who spent his life for the betterment of the nation and the residents.  The young generation finds solace in times of despair after getting to know about his struggles. 

For whom Bangladesh was the main priority

Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu extended his helping hands whenever he got the opportunity. His patriotism for Bangladesh reflected in the actions he took. We do not typically find people who can express such a kind of pure affection to others. 

He was one of the front-line freedom fighters and organizers of the liberation war. The temporary Mujibnagar Government assigned him as a member of the relief and rehabilitation programme in 1971. He took responsibility for the Bangladeshi immigrants who were in India at that time. He also travelled to many regions of Europe and America to collect significant opinions regarding the liberation war. 

In 1975, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, along with his family, was assassinated brutally. This occurrence worsened the internal conflicts of the Awami League. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu risked his own life for reviving the political party. He was the one who communicated with leaders and workers and restored the balance. Besides, as he took part in the protest during the Chittagong movement to fight for democracy, he was tormented in jail for leading it.  For his courageous contribution, he received the honorary “Independence Year 2021”.

Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu had a clear vision from a young age. He was pretty optimistic about his goals. He was involved in politics from 1958 while studying in secondary school. He got elected as a Dakshin Zila Chhatra League member.  He became an elected member of the East Pakistan Assembly before the liberation war. Thus, he achieved a flourishing perspective on the political state before and after the liberation war. 

Someone who did not stop in the name of success

People look after remaining stationary after reaching expected success. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury babu created ways to empower the people of this nation. He never stepped away from risking new leaps. He was one of the most prominent business persons in Bangladesh. He was engaged in establishing factories and trade industries to nurture the then economy. Zaman Industrial Group is the first industry that he founded. He founded the United Commercial Bank, the second private bank of our country which is operating successfully. For his initiatives, he got recognition as one of the best entrepreneurs worldwide. 

A person who extended his helping hands

Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu got elected as the president of the South Chittagong District Unit of Awami League. He used his parliamentary rights to develop several places of Chittagong. He invested in welfare projects so that people can solidify their lives again. He built lots of academic institutes to enlighten the deprived students. Besides, he funded voluntary projects from his hard-earned money so that he could be a part of a virtuous service. 


In 2012, this legendary person took his last breath. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mourned, “In his death, the Awami League has lost a dedicated leader, and the nation has lost a heroic freedom fighter and patriotic politician.’’ The young generation has a lot more to learn from his life to enrich their experience.
