Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was an enlightened one who sacrificed himself for the welfare of our country and to uplift the respect, pride, values of our country. He was a prominent politician and welfare worker who had worked for the Bangladesh Awami League party and also a former Member of Parliament representing the Chittagong-12 constituency of the Jatiya Sangsad.
Not only in politics but also within the business and industrial sectors, his support for the folk of this country was undeniable. He had also established some organizations, industrial sectors and banks, contributing to the welfare of this country, which is able to be remembered forever.

Babu founded the United Commercial Bank Limited and made it one in all the successful banks in Bangladesh. He had always worked to eliminate the matter of unemployment in Bangladesh. For this reason, he founded this bank with those in mind who want to get rid of their unemployment through some small business such as cottage industries, small factories.
Here, all those people were given loans to start a business. He undertook many activities and worked hard to form this bank successful. The establishment of this bank has improved the economy of the country and provided employment to several people.

Babu had worked tirelessly for the economic development of this country. He played a pioneering role in establishing the private banking sectors in Bangladesh. Before independence, he founded a factory called Boyle Industry on Batali Road. Later, he built many industries like Asif Steel Mill, Javed Steel Mill, Asif Synthetic, Panam Vegetable, Afroza Oil Mill, Bengal Synthetic Products etc.
He purchased Vanguard Steel Mill and Synthetic Resin Products. Later, He established the Zaman Industrial Group after the Liberation War. He bought an overseas company called Aramit Mill and turned it into a reliable company. Babu had further strengthened the foundation of the country’s economy through his business thinking and establishment of the many successful industries.
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu played a crucial role as the business leader of the country’s business community. He was elected president twice in a row of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce. In 1988, he was the president of the FBCCI, which is the country’s top business organization.
Besides, he served as president of the OIC Chamber of Commerce. He established many madrasas, mosques, schools, colleges in Anwara and West Patiya in Chittagong. He had worked till his death for the economic development of Bangladesh. So, it cannot be denied that the thought of Akhtaruzzaman was all time-effective for improving business.
