Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was a man who had clear visions in his mind. His love and affection towards the people and the nation were reflected in his service. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was a scholar. He completed his secondary school at Patya Model School. During his secondary school, he got elected as a Dakshin Zila Chhatra League Member. Then he got admitted into Notre Dame College, which is a renowned institution in our country. Afterwards, he received a scholarship from the USA for his academic excellence. He got the opportunity to continue his higher education at the Illinois University of Science and Technology.
Contributions During The Liberation War:
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu fulfilled his responsibilities from his Jupiter House in Patharghata during the cooperation movement. He arranged to dispatch the announcement of independence by Bangabandhu. The declaration was broadcast from his residence to Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. He organised the liberation war without thinking about his life. He coordinated the Relief and Rehabilitation Committee of the provisional Mujibnagar government.
He visited India to look after the Bangladeshi emigrants when the liberation war took place. He also travelled a few regions of Europe and America to collect the opinion of the significant people about our liberation war. Finally, he went to the United States as one of the spokespersons of Bangladesh led by Justice Abu Saeed Chowdhury.
In 1970, he was elected as a member of the Provincial Council (MPA). He was also a member of the Bangladesh People’s Assembly that was formed in 1972. For that, he had a contribution to drafting the constitution of Bangladesh.
Achievements As A Businessman
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury babu established himself as a successful businessman and entrepreneur. He expanded his business by constructing lots of industries and mills. Besides, he founded the second private bank in the country- United Commercial Bank Ltd. He also represented Bangladesh by getting elected vice-chairman of the 77th Jati group. He was the only Bangladeshi who held the honourable position. He also served as the president of the OIC chamber of Commerce.
Leadership Quality after Liberation War
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated brutally with his family in 1975. After that, an internal political crisis took place among the party. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu courageously tried to rebuild the party by solving apparent issues. He thought selflessly and maintained smooth contact with the leaders and workers of the party.

The Independence Award is the highest civilian award in Bangladesh that was introduced in 1977. Bangladeshi citizens or organisations that contributed to some particular significant fields are given it.
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu served in the liberation war as much as possible. He fought against the enemies bravely due to his patriotism for the country. He extended his helping hand to thousands of people who needed it and developed their lives. Because of his contribution in 1971, the government of Bangladesh awarded him the “Independence Award 2021.”
Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu is an idol for the young generation. He dedicated himself to the betterment of the nation since he joined politics. He will always be remembered for the initiatives that he took.
