Mr. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was a patriotic man from the very beginning. Born on May 1, 1945 in an aristocratic family in Chittagong city, no one could have imagined that this young man would one day become a gem for Bangladesh. He joined politics while studying.
Although it was not permanent, he entered politics with love and respect for the country. When he returned to Bangladesh after completing his higher education from America, he joined his elder brother’s business. He had acquired enough qualifications and skills to do business from there while doing business with his elder brother. He then became permanently involved in the politics of Bangladesh.
Since he already wanted to do something good for the people and the country, after joining politics, that desire seemed to take a bigger shape. Then Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, with the help of his own skills and with his own funds, gradually started building various institutions and factories. Then, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu became a successful businessman and entrepreneur.
Finally, Akhtaruzzaman Opened The UCB Bank
Similar to politics before independence, he installed a manufacturing unit known as Royal industry on Batali avenue. Similarly to his own manufacturing facility, he additionally looked after his elder brother’s factories. It became via this huge brother’s enterprise that he came to the line of doing business. He later built various organisations with his personal qualifications and determination. A number of the factories he has installed are Asif metallic Mill, Javed metal Mill, Asif synthetic and so on. By purchasing synthetic resin products, Zaman founded the industrial group in the first two decades of independence in northern Bangladesh.
Moreover, he bought a foreign-owned Aramit Mill and built it on his own. Then he thought let’s do something big. The number of private banks in Bangladesh was very low then. United Commercial Bank, the second largest private banking sector in Bangladesh, was soon opened.
United Commercial Bank
UCB Bank, full name of United Commercial Bank, was finally built according to Akhtaruzzaman Chaudhary Babu’s own plans and ideas. So as I say, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu is the founder and founding chairman of UCB, the second biggest private financial bank in Bangladesh. His biggest contribution is today’s “United Commercial Bank’, many call it UCB Bank. The bank was founded on 26th of june,1983. He has played a very important role in pioneering the establishment of the private banking sector in the country.
Reason Behind Open The “UCB Bank”
At first it was said that Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu always wanted to do something for the country, nation and society. Since he was an educated man his thinking must have been at a high level. Nowadays, the problem of unemployment in Bangladesh is as strong as ever. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu never wanted the educated young men and women of the country to stay at home.
So he gave employment opportunities to everyone in his factory. When Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu established the Bank, millions of young people in the country got employment opportunities. Besides, this “United Commercial Bank’ is playing an important role in financing Bangladesh. Since the establishment of this bank, employment of lakhs of unemployed youth has been arranged and its still running. Akhtaruzzaman Babu was kind and compassionate towards his staff. His main goal was to satisfy the consumers. He took the initiative to establish this bank with the development of the country in mind and he has succeeded in this.
