Introduction:

 Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu had shown the light to the nation with his devoting and sacrificing activities. He was a freedom fighter, an ideal leader, a true patriot, an industrialist and a prominent politician. The young generation of our country must know about his deeds and about him in order to become a great leader like him.

He was a fighting spirit and led the country on the path of welfare. He wanted to be close to the ordinary people through politics, to get their love and respect. His contribution to the welfare of this country will be forever remembered. He is still popular a politician in our country.

Babu was a great politician:

Babu may not stay among us, but his deeds, his activities, his ideals will last a lifetime. He is still a famous politician and will be remembered forever. He was a benevolent person and a versatile leader who sacrificed and devoted himself to the welfare of our country. He worked for the country and served the people till his death.

His political activities:

He was an enlightened person in his political career. He had worked for this country besides highlighting Chittagong through politics and had been able to get close to the ordinary people of Bangladesh. His role in the revival of the Awami League in 1975 was undeniable. Babu was associated with Bangladesh Chhatra League during his student life.

In 1970 he was elected to East Pakistan Provincial assembly from Anwara-West Patia. In 1971, during the Liberation War of Bangladesh, he was the organizer of the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, which has become memorable in his history to form a public opinion and for providing inspiration to the freedom fighters. Besides, he was elected Member of Parliament for the Chittagong-12 constituency of the Jatiya Sangsad in 1986, 1991,2008. 

He was elected president of the Awami League in the South Chittagong district in 1977, this position he held until his death. He was also the chairman of the 9th national Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Textiles and Jute. During the liberation war, he went to India and took various activities for the Bangladeshi immigrant welfare and was the committee member of Relief and Rehabilitation of Mujibnagar Government.

During the middle of the liberation war, he went to many regions such as Europe, America, London for garnering the world’s support for the cause of the liberation war.

Conclusion:

There is a great need for a sacrificial leader like Babu. He always followed the ideology of Bangabandhu. He was an ideal politician and social worker of our country. His contribution to the liberation war of 1971 was undeniable. In this recognition, he was awarded the posthumous Independence Award in 2021.

Babu was the chairman and founder of Anamite Group and United Commercial Bank Ltd. He also served as the president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry. What he had done for the country had brought him fame. He is still famous for being an ideal person in his political life.
