Political leaders play important roles by upholding the distribution of power and sources. The world is full of great optimistic leaders though only a few can become the idols of people. Most political leaders seem to lack the required management traits such as integrity and liability. Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was the jewel of politics who built his own identity in politics. He left a mark for his good deeds and unconditional love for politics.

The Beginning of Politics 

He joined the “Dakshin Zila Chhatra League” as a standard member when he was in secondary school. Out of that passion, he joined Awami League in 1967.  His journey as a politician set off from that year officially. 

The Great Political Leader 

  • Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu held the position of chairman of Haildhar Union Parishad from 1967 to 1975. In 1970, he was elected a member of the provincial council from West Patia and Anwara within the general election. He also became a Member of the Provincial Council (MPA) in 1970. 


  • He was one of the organizers of the liberation war in 1971.  When the non-cooperation movement started, he took the responsibilities of the struggle committee. After the declaration of Independence by Bangabandhu, he aired that message from his own residence to “Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.” The announcement was conveyed from his Jupiter House in Patharghata, Chittagong. 


  • During the liberation war, he visited India to look after the Bangladeshi immigrants. The temporary Mujibnagar Government assigned him the responsible member of the Relief and Rehabilitation Committee. He also traveled to different European and American regions to gather support and experience worldwide.  He went to London and then America as the representative team member from Bangladesh led by Justice Abu Syed Chowdhury.


  • As Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was a member of MPA, he turned into one of the reformers of the 1972 constitution. On that background, became a member of the Bangladesh human beings’ meeting formed in 1972. He also held the central position in drafting the charter of Bangladesh. He assisted compose the constitution of Bangladesh as well as one of the signers of the constitution in 1972. 


  • In 1975, exactly four years after the liberation war, the excellent leader of Bengal, Bangabandhu, and his family were murdered. Millions of tears came to the soil of Bangladesh in the grief of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. As Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was the front-line political leader of the Awami League, he had to stand beside the party. He risked his life to maintain stability with the leaders and workers of the party. He took the liability of reorganizing the party from scratch.  


  • Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was elected Vice-Chairman of a prestigious international organization representing Bangladesh.  He became the spokesperson and business leader of the business community of Bangladesh.  This legendary person got elected the President of the Chittagong Chamber twice. He also held the position of President of the OIC Chamber of Commerce. In 1986, he became a member of Parliament. Additionally, he served the ‘77-Jati Group’ as an elected Vice-Chairman. 


Akhtaruzzaman Babu was a visionary politician as well as a kind-hearted leader. His life was full of courageous activities for the masses of Bangladesh. He has made a special place for himself in the crowd by his good deed.
