Mr Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was an honest leader. He cared for his country and its people. That’s why, even after his death, he is loved and admired by his followers. Today we’ll know more about Mr Babu, his deeds and the reason for his existence in our hearts.
Mr Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was born in 1945. His father’s name was Nuruzzaman Chowdhury, who was both a lawyer and a landlord. His mother’s name was Khorsheda Begum. In 1956, Akhtaruzzaman Babu passed matriculation and got admitted in Dhaka Notre Dame College. He studied business administration at New York University after that. He returned to the country in December 1984 with an associate’s degree.
Mr Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was a famous leader of the Bangladesh Awami League. He was also a member of the Jatiya Sangsad. He represented the Chittagong-12 constituency. He was selected for the post in 1977 and served as the president till his death.
Besides being an amazing leader, he was also an excellent entrepreneur. Mr Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu was the founder and chairman of the United Commercial Bank Limited (UCBL) and also he’s one of the successful entrepreneurs of the port city. In 1989, he was elected vice-chairman of the 77th Jati group. He’s the only Bangladeshi who’s been selected for that position. He’s also the organiser of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
His Contributions To The Country
Mr Akhtaruzzaman Babu always extended his helping hand whenever he could. He loved his country and its people.
During the great liberation war in 1971, Mr Babu conducted the works of the conflict committee from his residence. The news of independence was spread through Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, which he organised.
Akhtaruzzaman became a member of the Bangladesh People’s Assembly, formed in 1972. He played an essential role in drafting the constitution of Bangladesh.
Mr Akhtaruzzaman also participated in the anti-authoritarian movement in the eighties. He was tortured for protesting against the dictatorship.
Also, after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was murdered, Mr Babu played an important role in reorganising the Awami League.
And even after the independence, when Mr Babu was selected as the president of the South Chittagong District Unit of Awami League, Mr Babu kept contributing to the country. He used his parliamentary rights to develop many places of Chittagong. He also solidified many people’s lives from scratch. He invested in solid development projects that would last longer. So that it would benefit the mass people for a long time. As a recognition of his contributions, he was given “The Independence Award” in 2021.
Mr Babu cared for his teammates. He always looked out for them. After he died, many of his co-workers said he was like a guardian to them.
Mr Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu always cared for his country and its people by contributing to the country in every way possible. That’s why even though he’s not among us physically, he’s still alive in our heart, in our mind. He’ll always be remembered with respect and admiration in our hearts.
