Lesson 1: There’s nothing called “Too early!”:

From the life-story of Akhtaruzzaman Babu, we see that he exercised politics and business at a very early stage. He grabbed his opportunities as a Youth, started contributing his efforts, and monetized the volunteer attempts. As a starter, he never ran after gain and profitability from politics and industry. Rather he took his chances, worked on the barriers, and continued to gather an enormous amount of experience. He learned from the mistakes, yet never had the idea of quitting at the back of his head. His endeavor was coupled with his pursuit of progress and development of our motherland.

Akhtaruzzaman Babu had the inborn ability to socialize most amicably. He became a trusted figure in his hometown – Anwara, Chittagong.  As he became famous for his voluntary welfare deeds, he earned the credibility of the common people at a very early age. His selfless motive in benevolent acts was transparent enough to see and create a positive impression in the hearts of mass people.

Akhtaruzzaman Babu became a man who was reliable and trustworthy to both his peers and others. All these early practices eventually led him to get elected to the East Pakistan provincial assembly in 1970. This could happen because of the love and respect he had from the people since his earlier life.

His involvement in politics increased after our country achieved independence from west Pakistani rulers. He was a member of the parliament for several years. When the cabinet was being fixed by the 9th national parliament, Akhtaruzzaman Babu was entrusted with significant responsibility.

He was chosen as the president of the standing committee of the Ministry of Jute & Textile. He was the chairman of Haildhar Union Parishad for a whole decade. He held this position from before independence to the assassination of the Bangabandhu family.

Lesson 2: Sowing the seeds of investment while nobody else does, never goes in vain:

Akhtaruzzman Chowdhury Babu practiced business as a youngster as well. He involved in industrial business starting in 1965. Despite the unfavorable situation that hardly offered any opportunity, Akhtaruzzaman Babu exploited his business skills and persevered with ambition. His early practices proved useful later when the business spread into multiple industries and conglomerates.

Right after the liberation war, the lands of Bangladesh turned into corpse fields. Most of the infrastructure was destroyed and the country turned into a land of ruins. In the midst of unseen potential and no foreseeable profitability, Akhtaruzzaman Babu took interest in investing. He is one of the very few people who pioneered the industrial practices in the newly formed country.

He started establishing and buying new industrial mills and managed them to operate them in full swing. Inspired by him, other investors took the courage to invest and followed the trail blazed by him. That is how Akhtaruzzaman Babu influenced the capitalist community to come forward and take part in developing Bangladesh.

Lesson 3: Confronting courageously & not bowing down to a critical situation is as good as winning:

Since Akhtaruzzaman Babu was involved in politics at a very early age, he had been facing complexities and crises for most of this life. Even the path of volunteering betterment is not as rosy as it seems. However, AKhtaruzzaman Babu never backed out from his responsibilities; instead, he voluntarily took more labilities on his shoulders and carried out the seemingly impossible tasks at the most critical times.

AKhtaruzzaman Babu was one of the organizers of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra in Chittagong. On the eve of the liberation war, the non-cooperation movement was on the run. By the initiative taken by the struggle committee, the message of Bangabandhu was broadcast first after it arrived in Chittagong.

It was a night of disaster; the West Pakistani regiment attacked the innocent civilians at midnight. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman was arrested around the same time. In that critical moment, while every second was invaluable, the Leader of the nation’s message was received. It was Akhtaruzzaman Babu who risked his life and let the message be aired from his residence. Thus the country and its people came to know that the war is imminent and there was no other way other than striking back.

The political crises arose in a different direction after the independence of our country. The heroes of the war divided among themselves with different ideologies that led to controversies. An unhealthy enmity was given birth, conspiracies went on… together they resulted in the bloodbath of 1975.

Every member of the Bangabandhu family was brutally murdered and the foundation of the Awami League was heavily shaken. While things went into chaos and uncertainty, AKhtaruzzaman Babu kept his cool and contacted the other members of the party. Risking his life and swallowing the threat of jail confinement, he played his role as a loyal politician. His activities in that critical time helped to unify the panicking members and face the enemies as well.

Akhtaruzzaman believed that development and success would never kiss one’s hand without a payoff with painstaking struggle and monetary sacrifice. With that strategy in mind, he could project in his mind the big picture of the country’s upcoming progress potential and worked accordingly.
